Uruguay‘s COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign Kicks Off with Elderly Care Home Residents
The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) has announced the launch of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign for risk groups, commencing on Monday, January 13. The first phase will prioritize elderly residents living in long-stay facilities. No medical prescription will be required for this group or subsequent risk groups.
Vaccinations will take place in antituberculosis honorary commission vaccines and private vaccines. The phased approach aims to organize the number of users being vaccinated.

Booster Doses Against COVID-19
The Ministry of Health recommends that high-risk groups receive a booster shot at least four months after their last dose. This includes healthcare workers involved in direct patient care and caregivers of immunosuppressed patients.
Regardless of the number of previous doses or infection history, certain high-risk individuals are advised to receive specific doses of the vaccine:
- Those aged five and above without comorbidities should receive one dose.
- Individuals aged five and above with moderate to severe immunosuppression should receive three doses.
- Those aged five and above who have received hematopoietic stem cell transplants should also receive three doses.
