Ukraine Strikes Back: Two RussianHelicopters Knocked Out by Sea Drones in Black Sea

In a significant military achievement, the Ukrainian intelligence agency has confirmed that two Russian helicopters were shot down, not one, by sea drones in the Black Sea on December 31st. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (HUR) revealed that the strike was carried out using ‘Magura V5’ sea drones equipped with missiles.

"This is a record – sea drones have shot down two Russian helicopters in the Black Sea," said a statement released by the Ukrainian military.

According to detailed data from the HUR, Ukrainian units from "Group 13" successfully executed a special mission, employing sea drones armed with missiles to destroy two Russian Mi-8 helicopters near the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula.

While one helicopter was reported to have crashed, another was able to land after taking a hit.

Initially, confirmation was received for the destruction of one helicopter, but additional sources later confirmed the downing of a second aircraft, as reported by the website "Ukrainska Pravda".

Earlier reports had already noted the historic first use of a sea-launched drone missile to take down a Russian helicopter on December 31st.

This latest development underscores Ukraine’s ongoing military capabilities and willingness to challenge Russian forces on multiple fronts, even in strategic waterways like the Black Sea. The use of sea drones, in particular, demonstrates Ukraine’s innovative approaches to countering Russia‘s military might.
