According to Kronen Zeitung, the vessel struck the quay wall head-on before crashing directly into the lock gate. The force of the double impact knocked several passengers, largely citizens of Austria and Germany, straight to the floor.

Emergency services and firefighters rushed to the scene immediately following the crash.
