Dallas police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday night on Lemmon Avenue. Officers responded to a report of a suspect threatening others with a knife and subsequently shot and killed the individual, according to the department.

Police were dispatched to the 5100 block of Lemmon Avenue, near the intersection with Mahanna Street, following the report of a suspect armed with a knife. Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux stated that when officers knocked on the door of the suspect’s apartment, the suspect answered with a box cutter and slammed the door.
Chief Comeaux reported that the suspect could be heard saying, “Put away the Taser, I don’t aim for to f —— stab myself. I want to get shot,” and was similarly yelling at someone inside the apartment, stating, “What we have is your fault.”
The chief further stated that the suspect opened the door and “aggressively charged at officers while reaching for the officer’s gun.” Officers then fired, striking the suspect in the upper torso. Officers provided medical aid and the suspect was transported to a hospital where he died.
