Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and First Lady Diana Nausėdienė met with United States President Donald Trump in New York on September 22 during the United Nations General Assembly high-level week. During the visit, First Lady Diana Nausėdienė expressed her gratitude to Melania Trump for the “Fostering the Future Together” initiative, which brings together the spouses of world leaders to discuss the safety and well-being of children in the digital age.
D. Nausėdienė praised Melania Trump’s leadership in mobilizing the international community to address the challenges posed to youth by a rapidly changing digital environment. The Lithuanian First Lady emphasized the necessity of improving children’s emotional well-being and safety, while strengthening their critical thinking, digital literacy, and resilience.
Diplomatic and Energy Cooperation
Parallel to the First Ladies’ dialogue, President Gitanas Nausėda used the meeting to thank President Donald Trump for the deployment of U.S. troops to Lithuania and the strengthening of energy partnerships through the supply of American liquefied natural gas (LNG). G. Nausėda highlighted Lithuania’s commitment to strengthening transatlantic ties in energy and defense, specifically noting the decision to allocate more than 5 percent of the GDP to defense and the signing of a 10-year contract for U.S. LNG purchases.

The President stated that Lithuania is prepared to continue reinforcing cooperation in defense and energy. In an Instagram post, G. Nausėda wrote that the attention Donald Trump pays to the security of Lithuania and the entire Baltic region is “especially important.” He added that the bond between the two nations remains strong.
