Army Disarms Unexploded Ordnance in Capital’s Borovo Forest
A specialized team from the Bulgarian Army‘s Land Forces successfully disarmed an unexploded ordnance (UXO) at the "Balcha" stone quarry. The mine, a heavily corroded 82mm fragmentation mine with a detonator, was discovered on January 1, along a forest trail in the pine woods above the village of Balcha, within the Capital Municipality.

The UXO, which posed a significant risk to local residents and visitors to the popular recreational area, was safely neutralized by the 78th Battalion for Assurance from the Land Forces under the command of Senior Lieutenant Vladislav Stavrev.
This operation underscores the Bulgarian Army’s commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and visitors, even in remote and rural areas. It serves as a reminder that despite the passage of time, remnants of past conflicts can still pose risks, and diligence is crucial in maintaining public security.
