Spike in Wildlife Collisions in Trøndelag After Heavy Snowfall; Calmer Weather Ahead

Article:

The past few days have seen a sharp increase in wildlife collisions in Trøndelag, following the recent heavy snowfall. Overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, reports of such incidents continued to pour in.

"We’ve received multiple reports of wildlife being hit," said Operations Leader Svein Helgetun. Since 9 PM on Tuesday, the police have logged eight such incidents across Innherred, Namdalen, and the Værnes region. Three of these occurred in Verdal, three in Stjørdal and the Værnes area, one in Malm, and one on Høylandet.

Helgetun attributes this surge to animals seeking warmth and food near plowed roads. "We often see a significant rise in such incidents when there’s heavy snowfall," he explained.

Elsewhere in Nord-Trøndelag, the night was relatively quiet. Looking ahead, the weather appears to be stabilizing after several days of heavy snow and strong winds. Wednesday is expected to be a fair winter’s day in Innherred, with temperatures ranging from -4 to -6°C and clear skies. Some gusty winds are forecast for the morning, but these should subside by midday.

Road conditions remain calm, with no significant traffic updates reported by the Vegtrafikksentralen on Wednesday morning.
