Breaking News: Sonora Cliffhanger – “Los Chapitos” Sicarios Ambush AMIC Agents
In a dramatic turn of events, elements of the Agencia Ministerial de Investigación Criminal (AMIC) in Sonora found themselves under fire as they attempted to serve arrest warrants against high-ranking members of a prominent drug cartel. The intense shootout, which unfolded in the municipality of Bácum, resulted in the deaths of eight suspected criminals.
TheTargets: “El Chapo Valle” and “Sipi”
Among the neutralized individuals were José Alonso Borbón Ortiz, better known as “El Chapo Valle,” and Brandon Antonio García Cejudo, alias “Sipi.” Both men were the primary targets of the operation and had arrest warrants pending against them, as confirmed by the Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de Sonora (FGJES).
Suspected of Heinous Crime
Officials involved in the operation, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that these targets were identified as the masterminds behind the gruesome murder and dismemberment of three minors in San Ignacio Río Muerto, a neighboring municipality of Bácum, just last month.
The Face-off: AMIC Agents vs. Los Chapitos Sicarios
The confrontation, which took place on January 4 at around 15:10 hours, left residents of Bácum shocked and confused, with local and state authorities remaining silent about the incident until today, when the Sonora Prosecutor’s Office finally released the details.
As AMIC agents moved in to arrest the suspects, they were met with a barrage of gunfire from sicarios hiding in two separate houses. Upon detecting a white, four-door Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, which the suspects planned to use as their getaway vehicle, authorities attempted to stop it. However, the occupants of the pickup truck opened fire on the agents, sparking a high-speed chase.
The Pursuit
In addition to the Toyota Tacoma, the suspects also fled in a gray Jeep Cherokee and a red Chevrolet Cheyenne pickup truck, all while firing at the pursuing agents. In a desperate attempt to evade capture, the sicarios dropped spike strips onto the road while continuing to fire their weapons.
Eventually, the pursuit led to a stand-off on Calle 100 and Calle 14, where the suspects’ pickup truck became stuck in an irrigation canal. Despite being trapped, the criminals continued to engage in a fierce shootout with the AMIC agents, while their accomplices in the other vehicles retreated to a nearby residence.
Aftermath: Eight Suspects Neutralized
In the ensuing gun battle, AMIC agents successfully neutralized the assailants, resulting in the deaths of eight suspected criminals. The lifeless bodies were later transferred to the Ciudad Obregón morgue for formal identification and autopsy.
Seized Weapons and Drugs
Authorities recovered four AK-47 rifles, an AR-15 rifle, numerous loaded magazines, several packets of methamphetamine, multiple spent cartridges of various calibers, and the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, which had been reported stolen back in November 2024.
Investigation Underway
The scene of the crime has been processed by forensic experts, and the involved vehicle has been removed from the irrigation canal for further inspection. As the investigation continues, authorities remain committed to dismantling the criminal organizations that terrorize the streets of Sonora.
This alarming incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle between law enforcement and the powerful drug cartels that operate in Mexico. The AMIC agents’ bravery and determination in the face of such deadly opposition demonstrate their unwavering commitment to justice and the safety of Sonora’s citizens.
