Elon Musk Reveals Weight Loss Secret: Using Mounjaro to Combat Obesity

In an unexpected revelation, tech mogul Elon Musk has opened up about his recent weight loss journey. The billionaire CEO of SpaceX and Tesla posted a picture of himself dressed as Santa Claus, showcasing a slender figure, and identifier as ‘Ozempic Santa’. In the post, Musk disclosed that he has been using medication to aid in his weight loss, specifically Mounjaro, a drug similar to Ozempic.

Musk, a long-time advocate for using such drugs to combat obesity in the U.S., clarified that he chose Mounjaro over Ozempic due to its "fewer side effects and higher efficacy." This stance differs from that of environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who believes a healthier diet is the most affordable solution to tackle obesity.

Originally approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat diabetes, Ozempic, Mounjaro, and other related medications like Zepbound and Wegovy have also been greenlit for weight management purposes. However, their off-label use is rampant, largely due to celebrity endorsements and perceived ease of reaching one’s desired weight.

The high cost of these medications—a monthly expense of around $1,000 for four weekly injections—makes them accessible mainly to the wealthy, as they are rarely covered by insurance. This exclusivity raises questions about equity in healthcare and public health initiatives aimed at combating obesity.

Musk’s revelation adds fuel to the ongoing debate around the ethics and feasibility of using medications as a primary solution for obesity. While critics argue that promoting a healthy lifestyle is more sustainable and equitable, proponents like Musk suggest that medications offer a quick and effective solution, especially for those who struggle with traditional diet and exercise methods.
