Faith in Motion: Disabled Youth Meet Pope Francis, Discuss Significance of Pilgrimage
A delegation of visually impaired and low-vision Italian youth recently met with Pope Francis, exchanging heartening words and insights on the profound meaning of pilgrimage. The private audience, held on January 3rd, saw the Holy Father impart wisdom and encouragement to the young group, also marking a rehearsal for the 2025 Jubilee Year’s theme, "Pilgrims of Hope."
Pilgrimage: A Journey of Persistence
Pope Francis emphasized the inseparable bond between pilgrimage and movement. Encouraging the youngsters to remain steadfast, he said, "Progress is not possible without a journey, and not all journeys are possible without progress." The pontiff lauded the group’s resilience, underlining that their inability to let circumstances hinder their progression was a testament to their strength of character.
Our Destination: The Door to Mercy
Reflecting on the upcoming Jubilee Year, the Holy Father noted that every pilgrimage begins with a clear destination in mind. For the "Pilgrims of Hope," the target is the Holy Door, a symbol of Christ’s mercy and the gateway to renewed life. "We are not casually wandering; we are journeying towards Christ," the Pope affirmed, adding that the true goal is "to encounter Jesus and hear His words."

"Like these saints, you have chosen the path of holiness in your youth," the Pope said. "Your journey, marked by small signs of hope, can light the way for everyone you meet."
