In a cautious response to expert advice from Skred AS and ongoing weather forecasts, the Sysselmester has initiated the evacuation of select buildings in Nybyen and one structure in Sverdrupbyen. This preventive measure, detailed in a recent press release, aims to ensure the safety of Longyearbyen’s residents amidst potential avalanche risks.
To further bolster security, a temporary ban on presence and passage in the scooter route along the eastern side of Vei 100, from Longyearbyen school to Nybyen, has been implemented. Additionally, Vei 300 will be closed from the intersection at Huset, extending up to Gruvelageret, to minimize risks and facilitate potential emergency responses.
These proactive measures underscore the Sysselmester’s commitment to safeguarding the community, with the well-being of all Longyearbyen residents being the top priority. As weather conditions evolve, updates on the situation and any changes to current restrictions will be communicated accordingly.
