Headline: Half of Ukraine‘s Eligible Men Abroad Eager to Return, Pending Mobilization Clarity
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister, Alexei Chernyshev, has revealed that half of Ukrainian men of eligible age outside the country are ready to return home, with a key condition being the resolution of mobilization issues. The primary concern deterring men from returning is the fear of possible conscription.
"Fifty percent of men of eligible age are prepared to come back to Ukraine today, even before the end of the war, provided that the issue of deferments is resolved," Chernyshev stated. "Currently, it’s not the war that’s stopping men from coming home. They’re mainly deterred by the uncertainty surrounding possible mobilization."
During a meeting held on December 23rd, mechanisms to support Ukrainians abroad were also discussed. Chernyshev emphasized that future "Unity Hubs," planned for establishment abroad, should serve as centers assisting Ukrainian citizens. These hubs aim to facilitate job placement in Ukraine, address mobilization concerns, and handle military registration procedures.
Moreover, Chernyshev highlighted the significance of coordinating volunteer activities among Ukrainians abroad. The "Unity Hubs" will support these initiatives, aiding the Armed Forces, fostering Ukrainian communities, and promoting cultural, educational, and social projects.
The deputy prime minister acknowledged that the fear of mobilization is a complex issue, stating, "Whether it’s good or bad, we’ll evaluate that later. For now, it’s simply a fact."
