New Year’s First: Enrique Lionel and Cancún Baby Welcome 2025
The clock struck twelve, and with it, the first Baby of the Year made its grand entrance. In the Hospital Regional No. 194 of Naucalpan, Estado de México (Edomex), young Enrique Lionel arrived at the stroke of midnight, becoming the first Mexican to see the light of day in 2025.
The Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) joyfully announced the New Year’s arrival on their social media platforms. "¡Fue niño!" (It was a boy!), they tweeted, introducing the world to Enrique, who was welcomed into the world by doctors and nurses in the traditional fashion, with a countdown to the New Year.
Enrique is the third child of Susana Díaz Cruz, who greeting the New Year with her husband Armando Balderas by her side. Medical Director Dr. Sandoval ensured readers that little Enrique is in excellent health.
Governor Zoé Robledo also shared the good news, expressing his joy and congratulating the new parents. "Thanks to all the IMSS staff for their tireless work," he added, wishing everyone a Happy New Year.
While Enrique was the first Mexican baby of 2025, he was not the only New Year’s baby. Down south, Cancún also welcomed a healthy baby boy at the Hospital General de Cancún "Dr. Jesús Kumate Rodríguez". Born at 00:22 hours, the newborn weighed in at 2,065 kg and measured 51 cm long.
Governor Mara Lezama excitedly shared the news on Twitter, congratulating the proud parents with a New Year’s message. "Welcome to the world, little champion," she wrote, kicking off 2025 on a joyful note in Quintana Roo.
