Headline: Woman Given 5 Years to Pay Back €50,000 in Welfare Fraud After Leaving Home and Food to Rot for 13 Years
A Dutch woman has been ordered to repay €50,000 in welfare fraud after letting her home and food supplies decay for over a decade. The woman, who has been living on government benefits, had been receiving aid since 2007, but her home was found to be in complete disrepair and her food supplies were past their expiration date, some going back as far as 13 years.
The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, is accused of committing welfare fraud by allowing her house to fall into such a state of disarray while continuing to receive government assistance. It is believed that she had been living in the house throughout this time, despite the obvious neglect of the property.
Local authorities were alerted to the situation after neighbors reported the poor condition of the house and the odd smell coming from the property. Upon inspection, authorities found that the woman’s food supplies were severely outdated, with some packages showing expiration dates from 2008.
