Starting the new year with a boost, Mexico’s minimum wage has increased by 12% as of January 1, 2025. President Claudia Sheinbaum’s announcement aims to restore the purchasing power of Mexican workers amidst inflation. The federal government’s goal is to ensure workers can afford at least 2.5 basic food baskets with their minimum wage.

The general minimum wage has risen from 248.93 to 278.80 pesos, an increment of 29.87 pesos. In the Northern Border Free Zone, the minimum wage stands at 419.88 pesos.

According to the National Minimum Wage Commission (Consami) table, more than 61 professions, trades, and special jobs will enjoy the minimum wage increase in 2025. Journalists and press photographers will be the top earners, with a daily wage of 624.30 pesos, translating to around 18,729 pesos per month. Social workers will receive a daily wage of 359.13 pesos (10,773 pesos monthly), while operators of dredgers and excavators will earn 340.04 and 336.94 pesos daily, respectively.

Other professions like truck drivers, secretaries, agricultural machinery operators, tailors, masons, carpenters, bakers, cabinetmakers, and radio technicians will see monthly earnings between 9,600 and 9,900 pesos.

The same Consami list reveals that 21 professions will earn less than 300 pesos daily, translating to monthly earnings between 8,000 and 9,000 pesos. Some of the lowest-paying jobs include pharmacy cashiers, grocers, bartenders, mattress manufacturers, seamstresses, gondola handlers, storekeepers, gas station attendants, poultry farm handlers, dry cleaners, hotel attendants, ranch hands, waiters, floor salespersons, and shoemakers.
