In a devastating turn of events, a 51-year-old man and his 22-year-old son lost their lives in a snow avalanche that struck in the Tyrol region of Austria on Thursday. Their 19-year-old sibling miraculously escaped the tragedy.
The incident occurred as a group of four skiers were descending from the Rosskopf mountain in the Zillertal Alps. Suddenly, an avalanche tore down the slope, sweeping away the father and the older son. The younger brother managed to save himself by throwing himself to the side.
Rescue Efforts and Aftermath
An extensive rescue operation was swiftly initiated, involving helicopters, mountain rescue teams, and avalanche dogs. After a searching for over an hour, rescue workers found the 22-year-old son buried under two meters of snow. Unfortunately, despite intensive efforts, he could not be revived. His father was discovered around 20 minutes later, three meters beneath the surface, but the attempts to save him were also unsuccessful.
The mayor of Hippach municipality expressed his profound grief and sympathies to the bereaved family, stating, "This is a horrifying tragedy. Our deepest condolences go out to the family."

At the time of the accident, there was a significant avalanche risk in the area, with a danger level of 3 on a scale of 5 for elevations above 2,200 meters. Experts caution that such conditions can cause avalanches, even triggered by a single skier.
