Russia Foils Ukrainian-Backed Terror Plot Targeting Defense Executive
In a dramatic security operation, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has thwarted a planned terror attack by Ukrainian special services against a senior official of a defense enterprise. The foiled attack was designed to target an individual involved in producing equipment for the Russian Ministry of Defense.
According to an official statement from the FSB’s Press Service Center, seven Russian citizens have been detained, including three juveniles, for their involvement in surveilling the target’s vehicle and assembling a homemade explosive device found in a hiding spot. The device was meant to be placed under the targeted vehicle for a potential explosion. The detained individuals were traced and apprehended across Moscow, Sverdlovsk, and Perm regions.
FSB revealed that the criminals’ activities were supervised by Ukrainian intelligence officers using overseas messaging apps. The detained suspects were also reported to have earlier assisted Ukrainian telecom fraudsters by setting up and maintaining hidden communication channels. These channels were used to disperse false terror warnings and engage in fraudulent phone calls to Russian citizens, laundering illegally acquired funds in the process.
As of now, the arrested members have admitted to their crimes and are cooperating with the investigation. The Federal Investigative Committee (IC) in Moscow has launched a criminal case against them, charging them under Article 30 Part 3 and Article 205 Part 2 of the Russian Criminal Code for attempted terror attack as part of a group with prior arrangement.
