In a disturbing turn of events, a popular Thai influencer has lost her life while attempting to complete a dangerous drinking challenge. Thanakarn ‘Bank Leicester’ Kanthee, a 21-year-old content creator, accepted a dare to down an entire bottle of whisky in a single gulp, and the consequences proved fatal.
Influencers and content creators worldwide often embrace extreme challenges and stunts for fame and fortune. Thailand’s Bank was no exception, having grown up in humble circumstances, she participated in such challenges to support her family. This time, however, the stakes were dangerously high.
Bank agreed to consume a 350ml bottle of whisky in one go, enticed by the promise of 30,000 THB (approximately Rp 14.3 million) as a prize. Without much thought, she proceeded to drink the entire bottle in one sitting, having previous experience with alcohol challenges.
Initially, nothing seemed amiss. However, within moments, Bank began to look pale and suddenly lost consciousness, collapsing to the ground. Those present panicked and rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A viral Facebook video captures the horrifying scene, showing Bank collapsing while some present continue to laugh and cheer. Public outcry followed, with many netizens criticizing the lack of compassion andotority.
Bank, known for her unique character, had been cared for by her grandmother since infancy in Bangkok’s slums. Her untimely death sparked calls for influencers and content creators to abandon dangerous challenges and for viewers to refrain from encouraging or replicating such content.
Many expressed sorrow and condolences for Bank’s elderly grandmother, who raised her from infancy. Some went as far as offering legal assistance for Bank’s family should they wish to hold those responsible accountable.
