Around 50 people gathered in Fengshan on April 26 for the inaugural networking session designed for young parents. The event focused on sharing experiences regarding infant care, breastfeeding, available support schemes, and postnatal mental health.
Strengthening the Community Through the Fengshan Parents Club
The session was organized by the Fengshan Parents Club, an initiative launched in September 2025. The club aims to provide first-time parents and families with young children access to educational programmes and essential resources.
Membership has grown since its inception, increasing from approximately 70 sign-ups at launch to around 100 families. Joining the club is free for residents of Fengshan.
East Coast GRC MP Hazlina Abdul Halim, who oversees the district, noted that the growing number of young families brings “joy” and a “breath of fresh air” to neighbours and the elderly in the estate.
To ensure all young families experience supported and confident, the club also welcomes more experienced parents with two or three children to share their knowledge.
Addressing the Challenges of Modern Parenting
The networking session highlighted the specific pressures faced by working parents. Joyce Sing, a 44-year-old banking executive and mother to three-year-old twins and a seven-month-old, shared her necessitate for tips on managing tantrums and balancing cooking with quality family time.

The event took place during a carnival at Fengshan Community Club. Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong attended the gathering as part of his ministerial community visits.
During his visit, Mr. Gan urged residents to maintain the “kampung spirit,” stating that the community must stay together as one people and one country in a world characterized by volatility and uncertainty.
Future Outlook for Fengshan Families
Looking ahead, MP Hazlina Abdul Halim and grassroots leaders are looking to run these networking sessions three times a year. This could provide a more consistent cadence of support for recent parents.
The team may continue to use community events and home visits to better understand the evolving needs of the district’s families. Similar community-based clubs, such as those in Bukit Panjang, suggest that this model could remain a fixture in various neighborhoods across the island.
