In a shocking turn of events, a video surfaced online showing two healthcare workers at the Maternal and Child Health Hospital (MBOAL) in Слиven dancing with newborn babies in their arms to pop-folk music. The footage, which went viral on social media, has sparked outrage and triggered an investigation by the local prosecutor’s office.
The hospital’s director, Dr. Ivan Selyaminiski, expressed his concern about the incident, stating that the two employees involved—which include an obstetrician and a nurse—had tarnished the reputation of the otherwise exemplary neonatal unit. "Those women have worked here for many years and have helped build this unit’s excellent reputation. Their actions have ruined that," he said.
The Video and the Babies Involved
The viral clip was recorded on December 27, 2021, when there were eight newborn babies in the room. The identities of these babies and their parents have been confirmed by the hospital. The healthcare workers involved have since been disciplinary actioned—one has resigned, and the other has been dismissed as of today.
Contrary to initial claims by a local family that their baby was in the video, the hospital confirmed that none of the babies in the video belonged to the family that made the allegation.
The Hospital’s Response
In response to the incident, the hospital has initiated an internal investigation. Moreover, all eight families will be contacted and asked to bring their babies in for a follow-up examination, despite all babies being discharged in good health. "We just want to ensure that the babies are doing well," said Dr. Selyminiski.
Meanwhile, the local prosecutor’s office has taken notice of the incident and has begun its own investigation to determine if any criminal charges can be brought against the former employees.
