Florida Panthers prospects Mackie Devine, Matvei Shuravin, and Michael Alscher are positioning themselves for significant roster impacts following key developmental steps in the American Hockey League and international play, according to general manager Bill Zito.
Mackie Devine Targets NHL Roster After Dominant AHL Season
Mackie Devine is pushing for a permanent NHL roster spot this season following a productive first full professional campaign. During the season, Devine appeared in six games for Florida from Nov. 20 to Dec. 2 and recorded 43 points (18 goals, 25 assists) across 63 games for the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL.
According to Zito, Devine excelled in Charlotte by finishing first on the team in assists, second in points, and tied for second in goals. “He had good start. He got some attention early at the NHL,” Zito said regarding the forward’s trajectory. “He went back (to Charlotte) knowing that he was going to have to work on his game and has done nothing but work every day to try to be a better hockey player.”

Matvei Shuravin Prepares for North American Debut With Charlotte Checkers
Matvei Shuravin is set to play in North America for the first time after signing a three-year entry-level contract with Florida on June 1. Selected at No. 97 in the 2024 NHL Draft, the 6-foot-4, 218-pound defenseman completed his contract with CSKA Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League.
The 20-year-old mobile skater is projected to spend the upcoming season developing in the AHL with Charlotte. “It’s going to help a lot,” Zito said of the transition. “He’s going to be able now to start tailoring what he does to our style of game, to our system, to the way we do things and to get the support both as a hockey player and as an athlete to continue to grow.”
Michael Alscher Solidifies Defense-First Role After International Stint
Michael Alscher is tracking toward an NHL arrival this season after anchoring a strong plus-17 rating with the Charlotte Checkers. Selected 93rd overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, the 6-foot-3, 206-pound defenseman appeared in four NHL games in April during a stretch of organizational injuries. He followed that up by representing Czechia at the 2026 IIHF World Championship, netting two goals across eight contests.
Alscher drastically improved his defensive metrics in the AHL, jumping to plus-17 in 52 games after finishing minus-2 through 53 games during the previous campaign. “He’s coming along,” Zito said. “He’s on schedule and he’s a guy whose style fits the way we play.”
