The number of influenza cases is rising in the German state of Hesse just before Christmas, according to the Ministry of Health in Wiesbaden.
The increase in flu cases is being observed across all monitoring systems, the Ministry stated. The rise is primarily attributed to Influenza A (H3N2).
Data reported under Germany’s Infection Protection Act shows a clear trend. In the 50th calendar week, 634 cases were reported. This represents a substantial jump from the 365 cases recorded in the prior week, and a much larger increase compared to the 114 cases reported two weeks earlier.

Alongside the increase in influenza, cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are also on the rise. 37 cases of RSV were reported in the 50th calendar week, compared to approximately 20 cases in each of the two preceding weeks.
The number of reported COVID-19 cases remains relatively stable. After a slight dip in early November, the number has increased slightly, reaching 575 cases in the 50th calendar week.
