Razendsnel Warming: Nederland transitions from Snow to Double-Digit Temperatures in Hours

Netherlands woke up today to a blanket of snow, only to see temperatures skyrocket in a matter of hours. Snow lovers had to set their alarms to enjoy the white spectacle, as meteorologists predicted yesterday. Many regions experienced snowfall, resulting in snowmen and sledding activities. However, the snow has now melted away, making way for rain as temperatures climb.

The sudden temperature increase is due to a sharp boundary between cold and warm air masses, with winds shifting from the south-east to the south-west, according to meteorologist Philippe Schambergen of Buienradar. "It’s more like autumn than winter now," he says.

Temperatures are expected to reach around 11°C nationwide today, with Groningen being the last to achieve this later in the evening. Tomorrow will remain mild, with temperatures ranging from 11°C to 13°C and strong winds, possibly reaching wind force 8 along the coast.

Although the cold snap has temporarily subsided, winter is far from over. Schambergen predicts a return of snow chances by Wednesday night into Thursday, with the southeastern part of the country having the highest probability. More details will follow as the weekend approaches.
