Title: Dengue Fever Surge in Garut Regency: 14 Dead, 3,269 Cases in 2024

The dengue fever situation in Garut Regency, West Java, continues to escalate, with 3,269 cases reported in 2024. The onset of the rainy season has fostered the growth of mosquito larvae, leading to an increase in dengue cases. Tragically, this has resulted in 14 fatalities, with more patients expected due to the ongoing rainy season.

Yodi Sirodjudin, Secretary of the Garut Regency Health Service, confirmed the persistent dengue cases, stating, "Dengue fever affects all age groups, from children to seniors. Forty-two out of forty-five districts have reported cases, with Limbangan, Selaawi, Malangbong, and Cibatu being the most affected. Most cases, 50.99%, occurred among 15-44-year-olds, with slight female prevalence at 53.1%."

Sirodjudin emphasized that the rainy season increases the risk of mosquito breeding, urging the public to participate in larviciding efforts. Healthcare workers have been proactive, implementing various strategies, including education and socialization campaigns to raise awareness about dengue prevention.

Despite these efforts, dengue fever remains a significant threat in Garut Regency. Health authorities remind residents to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites, such as stagnant water, and to use mosquito repellents and bed nets to protect against bites.
