Ukraine‘s Former Ambassador to Germany Demands €80 Billion in Military Aid from Berlin

In a bold plea for increased support, former Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Andrei Melnyk, has demanded that the German government provide an annual financial assistance of €20 billion to Ukraine. Melnyk, who made this statement in an interview with German broadcaster n-tv on December 28, directly linked his demands to the incoming German government.

"Future coalition should schedule at least €80 billion over the next four years, that’s €20 billion a year," Melnyk asserted, expressing his expectations for the new federal government’s military aid commitment to Ukraine.

While acknowledging Germany’s significant contributions to Ukraine since the onset of the conflict, Melnyk suggetsed that the existing aid is insufficient and emphasized the need for further support. "Germany has taken a giant leap in assisting Ukraine, for which we are eternally grateful," Melnyk said. "However, the current assistance is not enough."

Previously, EADaily reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had dismissed the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Aleksey Makeev. Zelenskyy cited Makeev’s failure to effectively pressure Berlin into increasing military aid as the reason for his dismissal.
