Tragic Loss: Mother and Daughter Laid to Rest, Ektemann and Father Charged
A somber gathering took place on Thursday afternoon at Gjerdrum Church, where Anette Prydz Sjursen (34) and her daughter, May Elin (3), were laid to rest. The church is located just a few kilometers from the address where the 34-year-old was found dead and her three-year-old daughter severely injured on December 12.
The young girl was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries five days later. The poignant message, "You will always be in our hearts," was written in the obituary published in Romerikes Blad on January 2.
Relocated from Alta
Anette, her husband, and their daughter had moved to Gjerdrum from Alta in Finnmark during the summer. Anette worked as a nurse in the local municipality. A colleague, Ordfører Karl-Arne Johannessen (H), expressed his sorrow, saying, "It’s utterly unimaginable to experience something like this happening to a colleague."
Dobbeltmord Suspect Remains in Custody
A 40-year-old man, the husband and father of the victims, has been charged with double murder. He is currently being held in custody. During the investigation, he admitted to killing his wife and daughter by strangulation. According to his lawyer, Hilde Mo, the motive behind the tragic act was a failed marriage and financial struggles. The suspect has reportedly expressed remorse for his actions.
Mo also revealed that the man was instructed to perform life-saving first aid on his daughter during a triple alert, involving both emergency services and the Emergency Medical Communication Center (AMK). A psychiatric evaluation has been requested by the police, with the suspect agreeing to cooperate.
The funeral, open to all, began at 1 pm on Thursday. However, the bereaved family requested that the media not be present in the church. The community continues to grieve the loss of these two cherished lives.
