Hamas Releases Video of 19-Year-Old Israeli Teen Held Captive
In a worrying development, the Palestinian militant group Hamas has released a video of a 19-year-old Israeli teenager it has been holding captive since his abduction earlier this month. The video, which surfaced on social media, shows the teen, Naama Henkin, seated and appearing to be in good health, six days after she was taken while hiking near the West Bank city of Hebron.
The footage, believed to be recorded within the past few days, shows Henkin holding a copy of the Hamas daily Al-Rissy news, which dated yesterday. She speaks directly to the camera, urging Israeli authorities to meet Hamas’ demands for the release of Palestinian prisoners. Henkin’s family has appealed for her safe return, expressing deep concern for her well-being.
"This video serves as a stark reminder of the desperate situation Naama is in," said a family spokesperson. "We call upon the international community to pressure Hamas into releasing her unharmed."
Israel has condemned the abduction, describing it as a kidnapping for ransom and a terrorist act. Israeli forces have been conducting widespread searches and arrests across the West Bank in an effort to locate Henkin.
The release of the video comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with Israel and Hamas having engaged in several rounds of fighting in recent years. The UN’s Middle East envoy, Nickolay Mladenov, has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the unconditional release of Henkin.
