Harald Eia to Lead Communication Efforts as Giske Ursin Joins UiO Rector Race

The race to become the next rector of the University of Oslo (UiO) is heating up, with noted economist and former politician Giske Ursin throwing her hat into the ring, as reported by Uniforum. Ursin joins a growing field of candidates, including incumbent rector and medical science dean Hanne Flinstad Harbo, and (-dekan>) faculty of law dean Ragnhild Hennum.

Ursin’s decision to contest the rector position was made public on Wednesday, ahead of the central electoral council’s formal announcement on January 13. The voting period begins on March 24 and concludes on April 4.

Ursin brings a unique blend of academic and political expertise to the race, having previously served as a Member of Parliament and as Director General of the Norwegian Block Exchange. She is currently a professor at the Norwegian School of Economics.

In an interview with Uniforum, Ursin expressed excitement about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in leading UiO’s communication efforts. "There are many exciting challenges within communication at UiO," she said.

The upcoming rector election is set to be a closely watched event in Norway’s academic landscape, with the candidates’ diverse backgrounds and expertise promising a dynamic and engaging race.
