“I have seen prices that scared me. People are taking the opportunity to make money, I find that quite deplorable”. Asked during a press conference at Roland-Garros on Monday, May 26, the president of the French Tennis Federation, Gilles Moretton, did not hide his consternation at the resale at excessive prices of the t-shirts distributed to spectators on the Philippe-Chatrier court the day before during
the tribute to Rafael Nadal.
On the resale application Vinted, it is difficult to get your hands on the famous ocher-colored “Merci Rafa” top for less than 150 euros. Some have even tried to sell it for 500 euros. Same observation
on Leboncoin with an XXL t-shirt offered at 300 euros.
“What do you want me to say, that we shouldn’t have done it? We should have done it, we did it. Recovering the t-shirts at the exit wouldn’t have been terrible”, justified Gilles Moretton.
“But I liked that 98% of the people wore the t-shirt during the ceremony. It was something unique. We haven’t seen that elsewhere. Same for this drift”, he continued.
