In a heartwarming rescue mission, seven cats were saved from a grim fate at a recycling center in Evje and Hornnes, southern Norway. The emaciated felines, now under the care of local animal welfare volunteers, are making a remarkable recovery and are eager to find their forever homes.
Eva Willbergh, a local animal lover who took in the cats, described the dire state they were in: "They were on the brink of needing veterinary intervention. Some of the kittens are so thin, they look like they’re only a few weeks old."
The cats, now thriving in their temporary foster home, are believed to be part of a family. Willbergh noted, "The father is about two years old, and the youngest ones are very attached to him. They’re a sweet family."
The cats were found on the recycling center’s premises, gaunt and malnourished, but miraculously friendly. A post on the ‘Kattehjelpen Agder’ Facebook group described their condition: "They must have been dumped like trash… They’re skin and bones, you can feel every rib and joint. They’re not wild, they’re clearly used to human contact."
Prior to their rescue, the cats had been surviving on the scraps left out for them by kind-hearted recycling center workers. However, they were fast approaching a critical stage. Fortunately, they were rescued just in time, thanks to the curiosity and compassion of a recycling center worker who noticed their plight and called for help.
Now, the ‘Kattehjelpen Agder’ group is actively seeking permanent homes for the seven rescued cats. Willbergh stressed, "We’re looking for foster homes that can provide them with love and care. It’s heartbreaking how many cats are abandoned, left to fend for themselves."
The group is also continuing their search for more strays at the recycling center. As Line Johansen, the group’s leader, stated, "We fear there are still more cats out there. We’re hoping they’ll emerge once it’s dark and quiet again."
