At least 16 people died in a passenger bus crash on Java Island, Indonesia, just after midnight Monday, according to officials.

The bus, carrying 34 passengers, was traveling from Jakarta to Yogyakarta when it lost control on a toll road. It struck a concrete barrier and overturned near the Krapyak toll way in Semarang city, Central Java. Budiono, a chief with the search and rescue agency, stated that the forceful impact trapped several passengers.
Six passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. An additional ten died while being transported to or receiving treatment at hospitals. As of this reporting, 18 people remain hospitalized, with five listed in critical condition and 13 in serious condition.
