Flu Season in Full Swing: Querétaro State Health Secretary Urges Vaccination
As the flu season continues, the State Secretary of Health (SESEQ) in Querétaro has reported a significant progress in vaccination efforts while stressing the importance of prompt medical attention when symptoms arise. Here are the latest updates and critical information to keep you and your loved ones safe.
Vaccination Progress and Cases
As of December 26, 381,200 doses of the influenza vaccine have been administered in Querétaro, representing a 61.53% completion rate of the state’s target of 619,499 doses. This remarkable progress has helped to contain the spread of the virus, with only 70 confirmed cases reported so far. Among these cases, 39 are women, and 31 are men, aged from one month to 81 years, primarily from the capital city and its surrounding municipalities.
Nationally, 1,664 positive cases and 12 deaths have been reported as of December 23, underscoring the importance of vaccination and prompt medical attention.
Symptoms and High-Risk Groups
The influenza season is characterized by sudden symptoms, including high fever, severe cough, muscle and joint pain, headache, sore throat, and abundant nasal discharge. In severe cases, coughing can be intense and may last for up to two weeks. Although most people recover within a week, individuals with underlying health conditions (such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, asthma, COPD, HIV, or morbid obesity) are at higher risk of developing complications.
Vaccination Centers and Recommendations
In Querétaro, the SESEQ offers vaccinations at all 198 health centers across the state’s 18 municipalities, following each unit’s regular operating hours. Additionally, there is a vaccination post at the Plaza de Armas, open from Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 14:00 hours.
The ISSSTE has set up a vaccination post at the main garden kiosk in Santa Rosa Jáuregui, open from Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 12:30 hours. Meanwhile, the IMSS offers vaccinations at its service units during their regular operating hours and has established temporary vaccination posts at various locations throughout the city during weekends.
The Secretariat of Health urges residents, especially those belonging to high-risk groups, to get vaccinated against the flu. They also recommend wearing a mask when sick, avoiding sudden temperature changes, and taking other preventive measures to mitigate the spread of the virus, such as regular handwashing, room ventilation, surface disinfection, and proper coughing and sneezing etiquette.
In case of fever, respiratory symptoms, or general malaise, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly. To ensure your safety and the safety of others, avoid self-medication and hazardous activities like lighting fires in enclosed, unsafe spaces.
Stay vigilant, follow these essential guidelines, and play your part in containing the flu this season. For more information and updates regarding flu vaccination and prevention, visit the official SESEQ website.
