The Murder of Eranuji Pehliyan and Garaebe Verinyan
The year-end saw the harshest sentence for Garaebe Verinyan, who was convicted for the murder of Eranuji Pehliyan, a prominent pharmacist, in 2022. Verinyan was sentenced to life imprisonment. The crime involved the abduction, murder, and dismemberment of Pehliyan, with the motive being the theft of 65 bonds, which the perpetrators then attempted to cover up. Verinyan and his accomplice, Mikhailov, who passed away during the trial, were apprehended after a few days and confessed to their crimes.
The Murder of Violet Deneva by Ivet Staykova
Previously, the Sofia City Court sentenced Ivet Staykova to 17 years in prison for the brutal murder of her grandmother, Violet Deneva, an actress. Staykova stabbed her grandmother 54 times on October 19, 2022, with the motive still unclear. The murder was discovered three days later when neighbors alerted authorities, following a complaint that Deneva had not been seen for several days.
The Murder of Raeda Gesheva by Georgi Gendzhov
In September, Georgi Gendzhov was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for the murder of his mother, Raeda Gesheva, a teacher. On January 21, after luring his mother to his apartment under false pretenses, Gendzhov stabbed her 67 times. The Tandura Case: The Murder of Hristina Duneva’s Children
