First Sit-Down Interview Details the Reality of Grief
Eight months after losing both parents in their California home, Jake Reiner spoke publicly for the first time about the tragedy in an interview with KABC-TV previewed on Good Morning America

Jake recalled learning of the killings through a phone call from his 28-year-old sibling, Romy Reiner. According to his account, Romy informed him that their father had died before telling him she could not locate their mother. Grand Jury Testimony and Pretrial Timeline
The public interview comes shortly after confirmation from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office that both Jake and Romy testified before the Los Angeles grand jury that indicted their brother. Nick Reiner, 32, was originally arrested within hours of the December 14, 2025, discovery of his parents’ bodies, which bore multiple sharp force injuries.
The grand jury returned an indictment on July 20, which was unsealed on August 12. Hochman addressed the development in a statement, calling the killings a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing
and noting that the indictment adds a special circumstance allegation of murder by means of lying in wait.

Nick Reiner remains in custody without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility after pleading not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for September 15.
Financial Disputes and the Slayer Statute
