Stasiun Karet to Close in 2025: KAI Confirms as KCI and BUMN Minister Discuss Efficiency
Article:
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has confirmed that Stasiun Karet, located on Jalan KH Mas Mansyur, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, will be closed in the near future. Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji, KAI’s EVP of Corporate Secretary, stated that the closure will occur in February 2025.
"In the new KAI schedule for 2025, which will be implemented in February, Stasiun Karet will not be serving passengers," Agus revealed to CNBC Indonesia on Thursday, February 1, 2024.
Initially, Asdo Artriviyanto, Director of PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI), had announced that the closure of Stasiun Karet was planned for this year. He mentioned that the closure would align with the implementation of the new KAI schedule in 2025.
"Currently, we are awaiting the integration of the 2025 KAI schedule," Asdo said in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 1, 2024.
Rudi As Atturidha, KAI’s Director of Business Development and Organization, confirmed the closure due to the station’s proximity to Stasiun BNI City. In the future, passengers boarding the KRL Commuter Line would be served at Stasiun BNI City and Sudirman, with similar arrangements made for KA Bandara Soetta.
"Stasiun Karet is quite close to BNI City, so it’s not effective to keep it open. In the future, passengers can use BNI City and Sudirman stations," Rudi explained.
Rudi also mentioned that a pedestrian pathway has been created to connect the areas between Stasiun BNI City and Stasiun Karet.
Currently, KAI is awaiting approval from the Ministry of Transportation’s Directorate General of Railways for the closure, and Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir has expressed support for the move, citing inefficiency due to the close proximity of Stasiun Karet to Stasiun BNI City.
"To build an efficient railway system, some unimpressive stations may need to be closed, like Stasiun Karet," Erick stated in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 1, 2024.
The closure of Stasiun Karet is expected to improve the efficiency of Komuter Line travel times, including the airport railway service to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Thohir estimated that the travel time from Stasiun BNI City to Bandara Soetta would be reduced from the current 50 minutes to less than 40 minutes, potentially even 35 minutes.
Stasiun Karet currently serves several KRL Commuter Line routes, including Karet-Bekasi, Karet-Cikarang, Karet-Angke, Karet-Kampung Bandan, Karet-Manggarai, Karet-Tambun, and Karet-Duri.
