Hyundai Kona: 2025 Kicks Off with Major Price Cuts
Hyundai is starting 2025 on a strong note by offering substantial price cuts on all models of its Kona range, dubbed by the company itself as a "braktilbud" or ‘brake deal’. This means that the most affordable variant, the Standard Range Advanced, will now cost 333,900 NOK including delivery, while the top-tier Kona Electric Premium with a large battery will be priced at 413,900 NOK.
Long Range versions of the Kona boast an impressive 514 km WLTP certified range, which slightly decreases to 454 km when opting for the 19-inch wheels. Hyundai’s price cut strategy can be seen as a direct response to the recent launch of its sister company Kia’s EV3, which offers around 100 km more range in its top-spec variant.
The EV3 is available in ‘Exclusive’ and ‘GT-Line’ trims, priced at 400,000 NOK and 499,900 NOK, respectively. In comparison, the slightly smaller Volvo EX30 with a large battery (476 km range), rear-wheel-drive configuration, and Plus trim level starts at 415,900 NOK before any additional optional extras.
Furthermore, Skoda’s upcoming Elroq model may also join the competition later in the year. The Elroq 50, with a 52 kWh battery, 170 horsepower, and a 374 km range, is expected to start at an affordable 299,900 NOK. Meanwhile, the more capable Elroq 85 with a 77 kWh battery is priced at 440,755 NOK.
In addition to the price cuts, the latest generation of Hyundai Kona has grown significantly from its predecessor. The Felix stepped forward to unveil a car that’s 15 cm longer, resulting in a spacious 466-liter trunk and, for the first time, a 27-liter frunk. When we drove the car last fall, we noticed that the rear seat area had significantly improved, providing ample space for adults – an issue in the previous version. The new Kona measures 435 cm in length.
Technologically, Hyundai’s baby electric SUV returns 90% of the components from its larger electric siblings and passes on more comfort features and driver-assist systems to its smaller cousin.
