French street artist Aéro is returning to Liepāja to create a new large-scale mural titled “Water Mystery” at the Liepāja Olympic Center’s LOC Baseins & SPA, according to project announcements. Last year, the artist painted the monumental work “Sirmgalvis un jūra” in the city. The new mural centers on water as one of the four primary natural elements, interpreting it as a symbol of emotion, intuition, and purification.
In the composition, water assumes a human shape while holding a pearl, which the artist characterizes as a symbol of mystery, wisdom, and the subconscious. Spanish artist Mandi Oh, also known as Amanda Arrou-tea, will execute a project titled “Baltic Mermaid” at 7 Roņu Street, continuing a Liepāja portrait series initiated in 2021. The artist has focused on maritime themes in her creative work for years and will depict the sea as a feminine, gentle, and life-giving force, according to project details.
The mural encourages reflection on human relationships with the sea, its role in urban identity, and the necessity of environmental stewardship. “The sea is much more than a landscape,” Oh states regarding the work. “It is a people’s way of life, culture, and soul. With this work, I want to remind us how important it is to respect and protect what gives us life.”
Expanding Liepāja’s Open-Air Art Gallery
The simultaneous creation of three new wall paintings marks a significant milestone for Liepāja’s street art development, adding to a collection that already includes nine large-scale murals produced through the Alberts family initiative.
