SEVERE weather caused by Storm Florian swept through Limburg, resulting in major disruptions, injuries, and property damage. Train services were suspended on several routes, and several people were hurt, with a woman critically injured after being struck by a falling tree branch.
In Sweikhuizen, the Azc company reported substantial damage, while the storm left a trail of destruction across the province. Many roads were blocked by fallen trees and debris, causing chaos and delaying travel plans.
One of the most serious incidents occurred in Blerick, where a woman was injured when a tree uprooted and toppled onto her. Similar incidents were reported in other parts of Limburg, with another woman requiring hospital treatment after being struck by a falling branch in Venlo.
The storm also caused extensive damage to property, with numerous buildings losing their roofs and several trees being uprooted. In some areas, power lines were damaged, leaving residents without electricity.
Traffic disruptions were also significant, with the A79 highway near Klimmen temporarily blocked due to a fallen tree. Road workers quickly cleared the obstruction, but the incident caused delays and snarls in the early morning rush.
The Provincial Emergency Services advised residents to take caution and remain indoors until the storm had passed. They also reminded the public to avoid areas near watercourses due to the risk of flooding.
