Respiratory Illnesses Surge in Dolj: Local Influenza Activity Reported

The final week of 2024 saw a notable increase in respiratory illnesses in Dolj County, with 587 cases of Pneumonia in Braila: No Flu Cases Reported”>Acute Respiratory Infections (ARIs), 317 cases of acute pneumonias, and 51 confirmed influenza cases (39 type A and 12 type B), according to a press release by the Public Health Direction (DSP) Dolj, issued on January 3, 2025. The DSP has classified the current situation as "local influenza activity."

A total of 955 cases of respiratory viruses and influenza were recorded this week, a decrease from the previous week’s total of 1,647. The incidence rates per thousand were 86.45 for ARIs, 7.51 for influenza, and 46.68 for acute pneumonias. The hospitalization rate stood at 22.19% of the total cases.

Vaccination against influenza is ongoing among high-risk groups, according to Order MS 3120/2023, with 55,521 individuals vaccinated in Dolj County so far. The DSP attributes this surge to the circulation of influenza viruses among the population and has consequently described this week as exhibiting "local influenza activity."
