A winter weather advisory has been issued for several Massachusetts counties ahead of a system expected to bring snow, ice, and rain to the region.
Winter Weather Advisory Details
The advisory is in effect from noon on Tuesday through 7 a.m. Wednesday for parts of Berkshire, Franklin, Worcester, Middlesex, Essex, Hampshire, and Hampden counties. Snow is expected to begin during the early afternoon, transitioning to rain and freezing rain overnight.
A coating to 2 inches of snow is forecast closer to Boston, along the Massachusetts Turnpike, and areas north of the city. Higher elevations could see up to 3 inches of snowfall. South of Boston, only a minimal accumulation of snow is anticipated.
Temperatures around freezing are expected in central and northern Massachusetts, as well as southern New Hampshire, potentially leading to icy travel conditions. A trace up to a tenth of an inch of ice is possible north and west of Interstate 95.
The National Weather Service warns residents to “Plan on slippery road conditions” and notes that the hazardous conditions “could impact the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes.”
