Federal Prosecutors Target Alleged Revenge Plot Tied to King Von’s Death
Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Weiner laid out the government’s case during Monday’s opening statements, telling jurors that Durk became consumed with revenge
following the November 2020 fatal shooting of his friend and fellow rapper King Von outside an Atlanta hookah lounge. Prosecutors told the court that the case is about murder
rather than music, detailing an alleged plan to stalk, hunt and kill
rival rapper Quando Rondo.
According to federal investigators, five men flew west from Chicago on August 18, 2022, after associates learned Quando Rondo was staying in Los Angeles. Authorities allege that the group shadowed Quando Rondo around Los Angeles before gunmen attacked near the Beverly Center and fired more than a dozen shots. Defense Strategy Pushes Back on Government Evidence and Music Use

Financial Trails, Separate Racketeering Charges, and Trial Outlook
The Justice Department alleges that OTF-linked funds covered flights and lodging, while a credit card linked to Durk was used during the operation. Prosecutors also cited a message from Durk’s phone telling an associate, Don’t book no flights under no names involved wit me.
The current proceeding excludes later racketeering allegations, after Judge Michael Fitzgerald ordered those accusations to be tried separately. Prosecutors say the Grammy-winning Chicago rapper faces a mandatory life sentence if jurors convict him on every count in this trial.
The trial is expected to continue for at least three weeks, with prosecutors beginning to call witnesses after Monday’s opening statements.
