Earthquake Rocks Sukabumi, West Java; No Tsunami Threat
Jakarta, Indonesia – An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale struck the Sukabumi region in West Java, Indonesia, early Monday, December 23, 2024. The earthquake occurred at 00:05 WIB (West Indonesian Time), with its epicenter located at 9.54 degrees south latitude and 106.56 degrees east longitude, approximately 283 kilometers southwest of the Sukabumi regency.
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported the earthquake, stating that it reached a depth of 10 kilometers. Thankfully, the BMKG has confirmed that the earthquake did not pose a tsunami threat.
This incident serves as a reminder for residents to stay vigilant and prepared in case of earthquake emergencies. As of now, no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties have been received.
