Fire Engulfs Historic Building, Evacuating Over 160 People in Oslo
The Oslo Police Department reported a fire at 2:04 AM, with flames later observed at a building in Kingos gate. The fire, molten in a 1890-built structure, was contained to the 1st and 3rd floors at 2:15 AM.
In an update at 2:20 AM, the fire department confirmed control of the 1st floor blaze, though flames persisted on the 3rd floor. All residents were evacuated, with no reported injuries. Approximately 160 people were evacuated from the building and surrounding properties, with buses provided for their temporary shelter.
Residents remained on the buses until authorities deemed it safe to return to their homes, according to a 3:46 AM update. The fire continued to burn at Kingos gate 4, butFortunately, the fire did not spread to adjacent buildings Kingos gate 2a and 2b. Waldemar Thranes gate was reopened for single-lane traffic.
Due to severe damage, Kingos gate 4 is considered a total loss.
