Man Arrested for Threatening Woman with Knife in Sofia
A 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged with threatening to kill his partner in Sofia, Bulgaria, after he held a knife to her throat. The incident occurred in the Obelya district early on Sunday, January 5.
According to the Sofia Regional Prosecution Office, the suspect, identified as I.M., allegedly told his partner, "You know, I can’t stand to let you take this miserable life." The woman feared for her life and contacted the police. The prosecution confirmed that the incident occurred within a domestic violence context.
I.M. has been charged under Article 144, paragraph 3, item 1 and 3, of the Criminal Code, which carries a penalty of imprisonment. He has been remanded in custody for 72 hours, and a hearing will be held to determine whether he should be placed under arrest.
The prosecution urges anyone affected by domestic violence to seek help from emergency services or relevant support organizations.
