Man Surrenders to Police After Severe Assault on Train Station, Claims Self-Defense
A man has turned himself in to the police following a serious assault in Deurne, as reported by Omroep Brabant. The incident occurred in the early hours of October 27, when the suspect, a 22-year-old local resident, allegedly attacked a fellow passenger on the train station, leaving the victim unconscious and severely injured. The police released the suspect’s photo on Monday morning, which led to his identification and surrender.
The suspect, when contacted by Omroep Brabant, claimed to have acted in self-defense. He reportedly was unaware of the gravity of the victim’s injuries and had not realized that the police were searching for him. His surrender came after he saw the police’s appeal for his handing-over on Monday morning.
According to the police, the suspect was part of a group of around five young individuals traveling in the train towards Deurne, coming from Eindhoven. An argument ensued between the victim and the suspect onboard the train, which escalated into a physical altercation upon arrival at the station in Deurne.
The victim suffered severe injuries, including a broken left eye socket and a completely torn upper lip, after being punched repeatedly. He was subsequently transported to a hospital in an ambulance.
Although the suspect maintains that he was attacked by a group of four individuals upon leaving the train at Deurne station, the police have not yet confirmed this account. The investigation is still ongoing.
In an unrelated incident, earlier in the month, a man was severely beaten on the train station of Deurne. The police are currently looking for an eyewitness who might have seen what happened.
