PDIP‘s Hasto Kristiyanto Named Suspect in Corruption Case Involving Legislative Seat Exchange
Jakarta, VIVAnews – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, as a suspect in a corruption case involving the exchange of legislative seats. The case also implicates Harun Masiku.
PDIP’s Deputy Chairman for Ethics, Komarudin Watubun, confirmed the party’s stance on the matter during a press conference at the PDIP’s Central Leadership Board Office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, December 24, 2024. Komarudin stated, "The naming of PDIP’s Secretary General as a suspect in this case confirms Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri’s earlier statement that the party would be ‘shaken up’ regarding the PDIP’s Sixth Congress."
KPK Chairman, Setyo Budiyanto, announced the findings during a press conference at the KPK headquarters in South Jakarta on Tuesday, December 24, 2024. "Investigators have found evidence of Hasto Kristiyanto’s involvement in this case," Setyo said.
The corruption case involves the bribery of a former KPU commissioner, Wahyu Setiawan, to secure a seat in the House of Representatives (DPR) for Harun Masiku in the 2019 elections. Hasto is accused of actively working to secure Harun’s seat, and investigators believe he attempted to influence witnesses to not provide accurate testimony.
Hasto is also alleged to have ordered Harun to destroy his phone and flee when KPK conducted a raid on Wahyu Setiawan’s residence in January 2020.
PDIP’s Deputy Chairman for Legal Reform, Ronny Talapessy, assured that Hasto would cooperate with the legal process. "PDIP and its Secretary General will always comply with the legal process and cooperate fully," Ronny said.
Harun Masiku remains at large and is currently on the wanted list.
