Los Angeles-based muralist Melanie Posner has completed a new neon-themed mural at the SweetWater nightclub, located at 8869 Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood. The artwork, which features two women, serves as a public representation of the local LGBTQ+ community, according to Posner. The project coincides with broader regional efforts to support APLA Health and AIDS Walk Los Angeles.

The new installation utilizes neon pink and purple hues to depict two women. According to Posner, the work was specifically designed for the venue, which she identifies as a “sapphic club.” Posner stated that her goal was to create an illusion of being “out and about in WeHo,” utilizing neon effects to mirror the surrounding nightlife environment. The artist is known for painting photo-realistic portraits intended to celebrate LGBTQ+ stories.

The mural is part of a larger pattern of visibility for Posner’s work within the Los Angeles area. Earlier this month, Posner unveiled designs for an official Pride Month t-shirt in partnership with ABC7 and Smile South Central. According to the reporting, sales from this merchandise line are designated to support APLA Health and AIDS Walk Los Angeles. The AIDS Walk is scheduled to return to West Hollywood Park on Sunday, Oct. 18.
