Title: Forlì’s Mercuriali Gymnastics Hall to Reopen in 2025 after Allusion Recovery Project
Forlì’s devastated communal gymnastics hall, Mercuriali, is set to fully resume operations by 2025. The Via Isonzo 54 facility, managed by ASD Ginnastica Forlì and used by local clubs Edera Forlì, Forti e Liberi Forlì, Polisportiva Cava Ginnastica, and Gymnica 96, faced severe damage during the 2023 flooding. However, a comprehensive restoration project, valued at €630,000, has been approved, and work is due to commence in January.
The project, funded through €330,000 from the hall’s insurance and a €300,000 donation by Cia-Conad, entails refurbishing the damaged structure. This includes reusing undamaged gym equipment and relocating items already present at Forlì’s Fiera. Additional materials, new balance beams, and floor exercise platforms for artistic gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics will also be installed. Moreover, the parachute pit damaged by the Montone River overflow will be reinstated securely.
Vittorio Cicognani, Forlì’s assessor for public works, commended Cia-Conad for turning tragedy into opportunity. "With their contribution, we’ve transformed a disaster into an opportunity to revitalize a crucial facility for Forlì and its youth," he stated. The hall, expected to reopen in 2025, will be a boon to the community and nearby neighborhoods.
Kevin Bravi, Forlì’s sports assessor, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to investing in such structures, making them more advanced and accessible to individuals with disabilities. Meanwhile, the four gymnastics clubs have temporarily moved to a dedicated space within the Fiera, which will be expanded to accommodate more users.
Cia-Conad’s donation is part of their broader initiative, "Supporting Emilia-Romagna," assisting seven public facility recovery projects in the aftermath of the disastrous flooding. "We are proud to have contributed to this vital project," said Luca Panzavolta, Cia-Conad’s chief executive officer.
Gian Luca Zattini, Forlì’s mayor, expressed gratitude for Cia-Conad’s support and emphasized the hall’s importance as a gymnastics hub and social gathering spot. "Thanks to this project, we’ll restore a state-of-the-art facility, fostering sports and social interaction in our community," he concluded.
