Breaking: PDIP Secretary-General, Hasto Kristiyanto, Named as suspec in KPK Corruption Case
In a major development, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Secretary-General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, as a suspect in a graft case involving political party legislator replacements. The information was disclosed in the KPK’s Letter of Appointment as a Suspect (SP3).
"Accompanied by this letter is an explanation that the KPK is currently conducting an investigation into a corruption case involving suspect Hasto Kristiyanto together with Harun Masiku," the letter read.
The unveiling of the case against Hasto took place on Friday, December 20, 2024.
Harun Masiku, the former PDIP legislative candidate, has been on the run for five years. He is alleged to have bribed KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan to be appointed as a replacement for Nazarudin Kiemas, who was elected to the DPR but died.
Masiku reportedly prepared around IDR 850 million to ‘grease the wheels’ for a chair in the Senayan race for the 2019-2024 period. Two others are also being processed by the KPK in this case: Wahyu’s trusted aide, Agustiani Tio Fridelina, and Saeful Bahri.
On Thursday, July 2, 2020, KPK prosecutors sent Saeful Bahri to Sukamiskin Class IA Prison, Bandung, West Java. Based on the verdict of the Corruption Court in the Jakarta Central District Court, Number: 18/Pid. Sus-Tpk/2020/PN. Jkt. Pst dated May 28, 2020, Saeful was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months imprisonment and a fine of IDR 150 million, subsiding to four months in jail.
Agustiani was sentenced to 4 years in prison and a fine of IDR 150 million, subsiding to four months in jail.
At the time of reporting, PDIP DPP Chair Ronny Talapessy, Djarot Saiful Hidayat, and Deddy Yevri Sitorus had not yet responded to the news. KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto stated that they would check the information and provide further updates.
