Christmas Day: The Birth of Jesus Christ – Christianity”>Jesus and the Dawn of a New Era
Celebrated worldwide today, Christmas marks the birth of Jesus Christ, bringing joy, hope, and unity.
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men," announced the angels over two thousand years ago, heralding a monumental truth: "Today a Savior is born to you. He is Christ the Lord" (St. Luke 2:11). This event, known as the Incarnation, stands as the cornerstone of the Christian faith, signifying God’s love for humanity.
The Nativity Story
The birth of Jesus, as narrated in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew, began with his parents, Mary and Joseph, journeying from Nazareth to Bethlehem, Joseph’s ancestral home. Unable to secure lodging in the town’s inn, they took refuge in a humble stable, where Jesus was born. Shepherds tending their flocks nearby were the first to hear the celestial proclamation of Jesus’ birth. They immediately went to pay homage to the newborn Savior.
The Three Wise Men
Guided by a brilliant star in the heavens, three wise men—known as the Magi—traveled from the East to present Jesus with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. This iconic event, immortalized in art and popular culture, took place sometime after Jesus’ birth and solidified the beginning of His journey on Earth, forever changing the course of human history.
Christmas Around the World
While deeply rooted in Christian tradition, Christmas has evolved as a global celebration transcending religious boundaries. People of various faiths embrace this time of year as an opportunity for family, joy, and goodwill. It serves as a reminder of our shared humanity, bringing people together despite their differences.
